You could download using DDL, and bring in a ultra-small external hard drive... There's 1TB EHD I think that they're selling for $300... And anyways, as long as you only download and don't leave any traces (by meaning of logging on and off at the internet, unless you can use 2 computers at once), they probably won't be able to catch you.

That being said you should also think about going to different internet bars rather then the same one everyday.

I'm from Singapore and have never heard of this Odex company. Are they the ones that release those VCD boxes I see?

I wonder how much money they'll make if they insist on restricting possible customers from previewing what they've licensed. Personally, I don't buy what I haven't seen (and loved) yet. I suppose Animax is one way to preview, if you've subscribed to that cable channel. What do they air nowadays? Anything vaguely recent? Last I heard, Kyou Kara Maou! was showing there.

Either way, their efforts to contain anime fans from checking out fansubs is rather stinky. Sort of reminds me of back in the day when an ADV employee (hi Andy!) went snooping around IRC fserves to see who to warn for serving things they licensed, or thought they licensed. (lulz Noir/Soldats pwnt) I think it took them some half a decade to cease being shitlisted by anime fans (like myself) with a long memory. Odex is not endearing itself to me now as well. Still, it's rather a moot point since I detest R3 DVDs and hate VCDs even more...

As of right now, I get most of my fansubs-to-preview through post and overseas FTPs; torrents are occasionally used still for mkvs not hosted on xdcc bots. Then spend $$ each month buying up R1s of old crap I've always been wanting. This is stuff I've spent more than a decade waiting for to get (Battle Athletes <3) so if you really, really want to play safe, you can just wait till you do get that CC and the job needed to fuel your hobby. Anime does and can wait that long for you. :)

Singaporeans, if you're terribly terribly worried about being tagged, I suggest you start making friends overseas. Friends overseas with anime dumps, and/or a happy-to-post attitude. We do get merchandise that overseas fans would love to trade for (read: ChuangYi's awesomely priced english-translated manga that uses good quality paper and comes with a nice dust-jacket) so maybe try using that as a bargaining chip.

Ah hehe, yes, I only noticed the date of the last post after hitting reply. sheepish Sorry about that. It's just that I only just noticed the hoo-haa over Odex and what-have-you a few days ago.

Hnn, while it's not much defense to remain interested in only the non-licensed anime torrents (since, as you say, they're internet stalkers too) then I must thank God that I've graduated from binbou student status. On the bright side, I don't doubt that there will be clever individuals who'll come out with the next generation of data dissemination protocols that will take the PTBs yet another few years to clamp down on.

I know I'll still preview new shows the way I always have, if they want to spy on obscure anime torrents for our IPs there's not much that can be helped. This is likely to be a wait-and-see game for us fans now. But I know I won't need to read any tea leaves to predict Odex's failure in gaining anything but a name to be spat on by fans for the foreseeable future.

Which leads me to wondering. Since they're completely uninterested in opening a dialogue with potential customers, or doing any PR damage control, then I have to say they aren't in this business to gain business. Their agenda is Control, Control, Control, and I'm betting their paychecks are coming from a source utterly independent of the market they're currently beating at with a nerf bat.

They had to have waved a good amount of money to get the Japanese studios to give them carte blanche over those hefty titles. As in, even if giving out the licenses to Odex would bring them no revenue, the money Odex waved at them would cover any losses. Gee, I wonder who has a vested interest and a fat wallet...

Heck, the first anime I watched as an adult was Nausicaa, in 2000, again in that same crappy Real Video.

So after all, Mie/Leet-raws versions of Nanoha aren't that bad.
However, it's surprised to see such low-quality TV in a country I thought was technologically advanced.

In regards to the quality of the raws, I was quite surprised to see some tiny punk raws of StrikerS appearing on TT. Brings me back to the days of vivo dumps. laugh I myself assumed that they had already moved every single television channel into the age of HDTV.

From what I can see, DGz is doing a great job at encoding with as little loss as possible, working with the sort of raws they're getting. Props. I actually ran their eps next to yesy in tandem, then blown up to 1600x1200 before deciding which group to follow heh.

Have you checked out Claymore? Or Seirei no Moribito? They fall loosely into the Older Warrior Woman Protecting Younger Male genre. Pretty good stuff.

There's RomeoxJuliet for unprecedented amounts of fluff and pretty if you're into that. Just have to brace yourself in case Gonzo pulls a fast one with the ending, or worse, follows the real play's ending to the letter.

Towards Terra is decent, Emma season 2 as well. I heard very good things about sola too (Kanon with plot according to some).

This season is actually evil in that there's so much good stuff to follow, my drives are having a hard time keeping up.

Gods, we seriously need a better encoding than H.264 with more compression.

Wow, I hadn't seen that Zafira was Zafila on the official site. I can certainly accept using Zafira, since it is indeed the spelling used for the car. I can also certainly see how it would be silly to use "Lost Property Riot Force 6". And I see how Teana -> Tea would not work, although at the same time you could have done Teana -> Tia, since there are plenty of nicknames people have that don't follow the spelling of their names. Though I do see possible confusion from that too. Although as for why it's Lanstar instead of Lanster, I still have no idea.

I am also somewhat curious about what the arguments were for not using Caro, although I suppose the translator being vehemently against it would be good enough reason not to. I'd still like to see the reasoning behind it however. As for Elio, I mean really, the difference is that one is a bit more true to the car name, while the other one isn't, but I guess if we really wanted to be true to the name, he'd be Aerio, which really just doesn't work at all.

I'm not really asking for changes or anything, as I respect the naming decisions, especially knowing now that they were decisions to purposefully deviate from the official names. I'd just like to know more about why. And though there was somewhat of an explanation, I'm obviously still unclear on a few things.

If you think about it, the Japanese pronunciation is not very accurate, such as "tsu" can be just as well pronunciated as "su" with just a bit more accent.

Something about the names for the characters in StrikerS. I'd rather stick with Nanoha-DGz's official released names. You can just download the subs I restyled from here and edit them. Ah do besure to give credit... the folks at Nanoha-DGz did like 99.9% of the work on these subs... I only restyled them. So editing them and releasing them without giving credit for those who did most of the work is a big no no.

We're using the official Japanese names from Nanoha.com unless otherwise stated by me on the release or unless common sense tells us otherwise. For Kyaro, the official Japanese name is キャロ・ル・ルシエ　which translates to Kyaro Ru Rushie. Also, her name is pronounced Kyaro too, not Caro. It's not that noticeable but you can hear it if you pay attention or have uber awsome speakers/sound card (like me XP). Also, Kyaro is infinatly more cuter than Caro, and Kiety said he'd quit if we don't use Kyaro too.
