I cant deside on witch Fate figerine i want:
What do you people think?
I prefer the second one. Looks more dynamic.
Definitely the second one.
I like the second one except for the blade on Bardiche Assault, it looks strange in see throu yellow vs solid yellow.
The second one is by Alter, and is much much better. Mine arrived a few weeks ago (had it preordered), very happy with the quality. It's also quite huge :P
actually the 2nd one's blade doesn't look tt bad. i for some reason actually prefer it to the GoodSmile blade.
saw both when i went japan few weeks ago.. think the 2nd one is a lot better (it's quite hard to find though).. would have bought it if the box is not tt big.
Both.
^_^
of coz the second one
What? A release without an announcement post? This is madness!
So after several sleepless nights (especially last night) #Nanoha and DGz are proud to present our first full episode release! You'll be getting this epic show in two formats: a 230mb XviD/MP3 for those of you who like to play such things (Katz wanted one for his standalone player) as well as a 170mb H264 version with softsubs of hopefully similar video quality. The XviD is out already (link to torrent below) and the H264 will be out sometime this afternoon assuming nothing catostrophic happens.
So anyway, enjoy our release and look forward to many more!
Hey what font do the subtitles use?
-Gabe, who's still trying to fix his kanji issue
>>48
There are about 6 font files bundled in with the mkv. Grab mkvtoolnix and mkvextractgui to rip them out.
The fonts used in the softsub aren't actually the ones used for kanji. Windows XP substitutes PMincho or PGothic (whichever one I don't remember) automatically so I guess you could try and use those files (not included in the mkv because they're ~10mb each). Have you seen LuPerry's Sumomo mo Momo mo softsubs and do they work? I'll try naming a specific font file like he does for ep2 and we'll see if that works any better.
On a related note: OP/ED subs will be turned off by default in the softsub of episodes 2 and forward. If you really want them covering up the epic animation you can select Track 2 of the subtitles. In either case, the dialogue will remain the same and the XviD version will still have them as well.
Finally, ep 2 is nearly finished. The usual rule of "don't get your hopes up" still applies but I'm optimistic about getting it out before the weekend.
Hi. Will you re-release the episodes once the HD raws are out? Sorry if this has been asked before. Thanks.
Nanoha doesn't air on real HD/Hi-Vision. Only fugly uspcales are available. Sorry.
Okay... so I shall presume DGz won't be using these upscales, but will instead work with the DVDs (once they're out)?
Sorry if I sound like a noob =(.
From what I hear, no. If we downscale the upsaceled "HD" eps, it'll probably look just like the quality that we're pumping out now. As for us doing dvd rips... I dunno. Up to JJS really. I'd love it though.
Yeah, the upscales really aren't that nice looking. If they looked like, say, the 1024x576 Air bluray rips (which are just studio upscales of the less than stellar DVDs - but they look pretty nice, especially the backgrounds) then maybe something could be done with them... but man, did you see any screenshots of that 1.1gb 1920x1080 upscale? xD
Same with the DVD subs. I'll definitely be buying the DVDs (got money to burn, bought the last 2 seasons...) so JJS won't have any shortage of sources, and he could just get the DVDISOs off Share to use anyway, but again it comes down to how busy he is at the time. If we can make him do them we will though.
lol at the 1.1Gb upscale. Purely Epic!
Thanks folks. =)
Seriously, not an April fool's joke!
Kiety dropped by from #nanoha on Rizon to discuss some things and so we're going to make an attempt at subbing StrikerS. I honestly have no idea how this is going to work out but we're going to try our best to produce timely releases. To get things started off on the right foot, here is the 30second promo clip you've all seen a hundred times already although this time properly resized (fat faces are not really that fat). Yes, a whopping TEN LINES OF DIALOGUE were translated for this clip but it was good practice for me to get back in the swing of things with aegisub.
To make things go even more smoothly, I guess we need a good timer since it'll take decades if I have to do it all myself. Even rough timing is fine as I can clean it up pretty fast. If you're interested drop either myself or Kiety a pm on IRC.
Have a torrent!

All right, in that case I guess we'll see what kind of train wreck the first episode is before adding more bodies to the fire :)
woot 30s of goodness!
Looking forward to the first release of from this Joint. Please dont rush it and make it an incredible first release ^^
ZOMG! YESUU!!! 30 seconds of heaven <3
hmmm
I can help set the timing if u like, but tell me what source u'll use for the episodes ??
is it raw or dvd rip ?
>>12
Episode 1 is coming along quite nicely. Those of you who actually downloaded raws will agree that the ones that came out so far have been quite awful in the video quality department so we're waiting for a better one probably Tuesday or Wednesday that doesn't suck. I'm not going to make any release date estimates but things are moving smoothly for now!
Great News !!
Definitely I'll get your release!! We all want HQ cuz We love the show...
If u need any help I'll love 2 ^^
I'll always check here everyday...
Arigatou ~
Looking forward to it, the yesy version was enough to get me paying attention to homework again, but i await your HQ release.
-Gabe
Good luck!
Stale message board is STAAAALE.
Anyway you've all no doubt seen this already since it's been on the internet for hours now but here's the first actual video preview of StrikerS. From this 30 seconds it looks like the story will be incredibly different and possibly even more epic but we'll have to wait and see.
On a side note, have any antagonists been introduced yet?
http://www.moetron.com/2007/03/28/nanoha-strikers-30sec-preview/
Sweet sweet sweetness!
Its cool but sadly they changed Subaru's and Teana's outfits slightly as well as her guns. I don't mind the Guns because they probably look good anyway, but they removed the extended skirt stuff off the 2 of them.
I get the feeling that they are different because the two aren't in Nanoha's squad yet.
This is probably a bad idea which will result in the using up of my monthly transfer but.... what the hell, I can always change the URL if it gets too popular. DGz has a danbooru clone at:
with a small assortment of neat stuff including most of the images found on this board along with any random (usually 4chan related) material I collect. Feel free to browse and if you'd like you can even make an account and post stuff.
Guidelines for posting are pretty much the same as here:
Hotlinking images will fail (e.g. in an img tag), however you can make a link to the page containing the image if you like. The software that powers the site is under heavy development so some things don't work properly and sometimes the site may be completely inaccessible as I break something (on purpose or otherwise).
That's all I can think of at the moment, just use the existing posts as a guideline for allowed content and don't be a jerk.
Some tags of relevance to the particular crowd that would visit this site in the first place :)

That pic is DA BOMB! -- pardon the pun.
And a ton of AIR pics. Thanks! :)
Needed somewhere to stick some pics. Feel free to add...
might as well post the biggest ones i can find
No, it turns out that Nero's "awesome" AAC encoder is a piece of crap. Here's what happened for a few tests I ran:
I have no idea why this happened. It didn't matter whether I set the SBR/HE_AAC flag (I used AAC_LC btw) in mkvmerge or not, the MKV output ALWAYS reported 96khz. Unfortunately I didn't realize it until about a week ago when someone pointed it out in another post and now it's too late :/ If you're suffering stuttering or lag as a result you can set FFDShow (or hopefully your other favorite AAC decoder) to force a resample to 48khz. It's usually marked as "Force resample for >48khz" or something to that effect.
For A's I have switched to using FAAC to encode the audio and this has given me reliable 48khz output to match the DVD source. This confirms my suspicion that the problem lies with Nero Digital's CLI AAC encoder and not with mkvmerge. I also switched to using FAAC's "100%" quality setting rather than 128kbit ABR that I used in Nero. They both come out to almost the exact same filesize but finished episodes could vary in size by a meg or two.
tl;dr - Season 1 is screwed, I can't easily fix it with a patch but most people won't notice it if you have modern soundcard hardware (so far all of 2 (or maybe 3, hard to tell on an anonymous messageboard :) different people have complained that it caused problems). Season 2 will be properly encoded (I hope to get that rolling soon, I've pretty much finished my encoding test rounds).
bah, forgot an image with the reply
(excuses excuses...)
What do you think of Vorbis in comparison to AAC?
I spent a few hours doing AAC encoding and listening tests today (including ABX), and the results were disappointing.
Nero Digital Audio+ 1.0.0.2:
Vorbis (Xiph.Org libVorbis I 20050304):
These findings do not rule out the possibility for other, more efficient AAC encoders. However, they do suggest that Vorbis may be a better choice than AAC for efficient audio coding at high fidelity.
(The test music used was Pani Poni Dash - Roulette Roulette Ichijou-san Ver., a typical Jpop song with percussion and vocals. Sample rate was 44.1 kHz.)
If you need suggestions for Vorbis encoders I can HIGHLY reccommend the Lancer builds: http://homepage3.nifty.com/blacksword/
Choose one that fits your cpu type, oggdropXPd variant if you want "drag n drop" interface, oggenc variant if you want command line. They are highly optimised and will encode very fast, and the latest "20061110" builds are based on aotuv-b5 which I personally have no problems with and I highly recommend it.
Some default lowpass settings on aotuv-b5 builds in case you are interested:
Q1 15.8 khz
Q2 16.5 khz
Q3 17.2 khz
Q4 18.3 khz
Q5 20.1 khz
I usually go with default settings at Q4 if the source is delicate, but q2-q3 is also very good "bang for the buck" value if the source is crap anyway.
Not much else to write about, other than this I hope any of this can be useful.
I know it's late, but I just have to .. :p
I just took one of your files, demuxed audio, muxed back without SBR switch (mkvtoolnix 1.8.1) - and guess what, it worked flawlessly (CoreAAC 1.0b9, which is my favorite aac decoder but can't be set to force a certain sample rate). I don't know how you did it, but you obviously failed at muxing. Or rather mkvmerge did, whatever.
>>6
I'll bite :P
mkvtoolnix 1.7.0 which was the latest available when I did season 1 apparently had a bug that caused this whole sample rate fiasco. See this post on the CCCP forums:
http://www.cccp-project.net/smf/index.php?topic=994.msg6616#msg6616
Quote from: "mkvtoolnix 1.80 changelog"
And in this case "sometimes" == "every single time" for the set of conditions I muxed everything under.
If anyone needs the "A's to StrikerS" manga in translated form, I can host the 3 volumes on my webhost.
Also, concerning the DVD extras, if you can't find a translator, could you still release them unsubbed? I for one would love to watch them even if I can't get all the words down right.
And thanks for the great work with the releases. bows
Here's a pic for you guys. These girls own!
I love your work ..
please keep up the good work...
thank u so much for everything u done =)
I present you with the original scan of the Nanoha/Subaru...
Anyone have the skill to make a wallpaper from that last image?
I know someone who could...I can ask him to do it in both 1024x768 and 1280x1024...
Here is my pitiful attempt at creating a 1280x1024 version. Use or abuse as you see fit.
and the 1024x768 version.
Wow nice work
As promised in the last release post, here is episode 12. The final battle is about to begin! How many cliches can we possibly pack into a single episode? Watch and find out!
Picture unrelated, but hilarious nonetheless.
http://damagedgoodz.net/torrents/mglna12.torrent
Episode 13 will take a smidge longer since it needs more attention and a finer-toothed comb for catching my typos. Please be patient!
Thank you very much as allways.
Only 1 more. Thanks for all the hard work.
yea :D
