(This post is very long, sorry)
Almost there...
It's currently re-encoding and then needs to go through one more round of QC. Like an EA Games product it's missing some previously announced features, but here's an abbreviated list of what you CAN expect to find in the release:
Multiple subtitle tracks: Related to the above in that there are TWO styled subtitle tracks. For the first episode the default track will contain both the OP/ED lyrics and the regular show dialogue. The second track will contain only the show dialogue for those that like things clean (like me). Starting with episode 02, the dialogue only track will become default so if you want to see the OP/ED lyrics, you'll need to switch to the second track in that case. ALSO there is an unstyled SRT subtitle track for you jerks trying to watch quality releases with the crap known as VLC. Please consider the CCCP http://www.cccp-project.net/ for playing back any anime in general. You'll be amazed how much more awesome styled subs look than the crap you see now in VLC (e.g. the lines of text layered atop one another with no regard for position tags). If you don't like CCCP you can achieve similar results with:
You linux folk would probably like MPlayer as I think with the very latest version they introduced a significant improvement to styled subtitle decoding.
For goodness sake! I've been looking forward to this... I'm so excited... thank you! THANK YOU!
AWESOME
I wish more groups were this dedicated and released stuff in this way.
For those wondering exactly what's different between DVD and TV versions, I just found this on 4chan:
http://lolipuni.com/list/review/nanohaAs/nanohaAs_DVD1.html
The DVD images are on the left and TV on the right. The link contains comparisons of all the DVD volumes and may contain spoiler scenes for those who haven't seen the series yet.
hmm the _ mind games is a serious anime cliche that can sometimes really really annoy me attack dammit get it over with i say talk talk talk. being dedicated to a show is great the product that is turned out in the end is something that we as watchers always strive to find and enjoy. also this isnt a anime that is done over and over by 10 groups all changing a little bit so they can call it there own after 1 poor slub does allt he work. so we know here they will only be able to make theres less watchable. "smile"
The Olin
Nice and looking forward to it =).
About the "Rakete" thingy... well, you might want to know that in german there's only one word for missiles and rockets in the first place, so neither "rocket" nor "missile" would be wrong... well, if you don't wanna loose yerself in discussions about the targetting system that is, but that's really only possible in english ^_^, trust me i am german ;).
Oh... and to talk about the pros of unstyled subs: They're much easier to change to your personal tastes in matters of size and especially colour :P. Seen so many ill chosen white subs already...
Anyways, keep up the nice work b^_^b.
Awesome. Just. Awesome
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yea, as mentioned above CCCP is really the only thing you should watch subbed anime with, it's much easier with subtitles and audio tracks. Also, with certain players the subtitles tend to run off of the screen cause they use their own font rather than the styled font in the coding. But yea, CCCP ftw!
Come on, you can do better than that. =)
With 132 kb/s for audio, you can retain much more than just 16 kHz.
Please give Vorbis a try.
---
(CCCP is redundant. ffdshow + Media Player Classic for the win!)
>>13
You're far too obsessed with upper frequency limits. The goal of these codecs is to throw out the information you wouldn't be able to pick up anyway.
Here's the spectromagnoarticulatorized analysis of ep 2 encoded with vorbis at Q=4 (same filesize as current AAC). If that extra 1.5khz of nearly inaudible fuzz is that important, I don't mind switching the drop-down box to vorbis instead of aac (actually I saved 3mb at Q=4). We're getting down to squeezing blood from a turnip here.
For the record, CCCP = ffdshow + mediaplayer classic (or zoomplayer). There is no redundancy there, it's just a convenient package of the two (and VSFilter which you really should be using instead of the version built into MPC, and Haali Media Splitter which you REALLY should be using instead of MPC's built in mkv splitter).
guys!
thanks for releasing Nanoha DVD!
now i have a problem.
i cant seem to see the subtitles for the eps.
using MPC with ffdshow.
help?
thx
oh...finally oAo
thanks dude!
just wondering but why is raging heart translated as Rasing Heart.
Just a quick note to say thanks on a great job putting these out...'tis appreciated.
Thank you for releasing Nanoha DVD version. It is much apreciated by me and my friends who enjoy the show. You did a great job and I can't wait to see your version of Nanoha A's (if you decide to do it). Also, I had no intention of posting this on box without your permision, but does your first comment mean that you will be releasing a batch torrent with reedited versions of the first episodes?
A huge thanks to everyone who made the release possible. Greatly appreciated. :)
Thanks a lot JJS!
Thank you for releaseing Season 1 on dvd are you gona release season 2 also?
thx for the loli... err on nanoha
can't w8 for A's
Haven't seen the releases yet, waiting for the batch, but I've heard good things ^-^
is AWESOME.
But seriously, this is where the majority of the season's budget went and it shows. I'm actually going to have someone QC this for me this afternoon since it's kind of an important episode. Hopefully all will be fine and I'll post the torrent here tonight or tomorrow afternoon.
HEAVEN OR HELL, LET'S ROCK!
Well, I got bored so I took care of episode 12 this afternoon. Looks like we're on track for a double release (HOLY CRAP!). Hopefully no one is panicking about the delay since the last release.
Torrent hopefully tomorrow (Tuesday afternoon).
Wow! Looking forward to it!!!
Is there anyone that can seed this episode now?
Don't fuck up. I'm watching you. If you care about my input though, I'd rather you keep the karaoke out. Just a suggestion :P
I dont know about the resolution. Are the DVDs really 640x480? I would keep the resolution 1:1 and Matroska supports this neat anamorphic feature too, if its required.
Different colors for each character sound good, but different fonts? I dont know.
Im no encoding freak but I'm a fan of the idea, if you already have the DVDs, do the best possible Rip. With coreavc and the newer ffdshow builds even h.264 HD material can be played on weaker machines so I expect the best possible encode ;)
And I dont really care about Karoke as long as it's not annoying.
Good luck with the new project. Im anticipating it :)
Fonts? What fonts? VLC doesn't do fonts.
JJS, what I wanted to tell you on IRC was that I have a few fonts that are tech/computerish. I can send you some HTML previews of the packages, or I can send you the entire collections. They aren't big, under 2MB each. Contact me on IRC.
In case it might help out, the fonts that the Intelligent devices talk in are Lucida Console, in the fansubbing of Triad's Nanoha and Nanoha A's.
At least, I'm pretty sure that it is.
I've seen 720x480 (h.264) fansubbed animes and watched them on my monitor (1280x1024). There isn't a problem seeing them in their original resolution on a monitor whose aspect ratio is 4:3. It's like watching widescreen DVDs with black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. However, the only people benefitting from widescreen fansubbed animes are those with widescreen monitors though.
I wish I had a widescreen monitor. T_T
But either way will work.
IS FINISHED
Torrent will be posted tomorrow morning if I can find the time at work to remote desktop in and start it. Otherwise in the late afternoon. The link will be posted in this thread the moment it's up (although most of you will have found it via Tokyotosho or Baka-updates).
Feel free to discuss something in this thread or start a new one if you like.

PLEASE fix your client. I assure you that you can't possibly have a full copy of the file so stop pretending to be a seed :/
can someone seed episode 01-04? not getting enough seeds to finish it :D thanks
here is a pic of the sub error in episode five, happens around 11:50 I think.

If tracker/torrent should be down again :)
If you are having perfomance issues playing back these files, most likely due to a slower CPU, and are running windows then I would suggest using CoreAVC. www.coreavc.com
Please note this is a commercial product ($10.00 for standard edition). It is far superior in efficiency to other h264 codec/filters. I myself use it. (No this is not an advertisement). You can read a lot about CoreAVCs early developement at the doom9 forums.
If you have a slower system, CoreAVC is by far the best (And cheapest) way to enable h264 playback.
i am having some problem with playing the first episode of nanoha.
The video can be played just fine, but for some reasons, the sound is all screwed up as in all the characters voice, the music have weird tones etc.. =(
My come is quite decent 1.8 ghz duo core, and i am using k-lite codec to play the file. All other files works just fine.. anyone has this problem ??? and how can i fix it.
Thanks in advance
on the subject of video issues, has anyone who had problems with episodes 1-4 tried 5 and later and found it better? since episode 5, the encoder was limited to main profile h264 which should be a bit easier on the cpu. if so, i'll make v2's of those first ones for the batch which will be out after the season is finished.
the poor fella: k-lite isn't a codec, it is a codec pack, which is a very bad idea. You should only install codecs as needed, or use something like CCCP, which is well tested, installs/uninstalls cleanly and provides easy control over the filters used.
try using a different AAC decoder, but be sure to disable/uninstall your current one first.
@jss: As i don't have those files myself i can't try it but if you want to compare the performace of different encodes you could either watch the "Cpu Time" meter in the taskmanager, or underclock your cpu to simulate a slower system =). Either by using some standart slowdown-software, hardunderclocking via bios oder rctools if you have a cpu that supports on-the-fly reclocking ^_°. Even though i remember bitrate beeing the biggest factor with x264 playback speed.
@coreavc: For people who want to try it, PowerDVD7 installs CoreAVC =) which is the version i'm using atm. The pdvd i'm using is a 30DayTrial tho (which isn't over for me yet), which is why i don't know what happens to coreavc once the trial is over even if you don't deinstall pdvd.
I've used it myself and indeed it does use alot less cpu (compared to ffdshow/libavoc in mpc), but it still doesn't solve a strange issue that drops frames even at ~30% cpu utilysation. Causes the actual average fps to drop to 22 on a 23.9fps file =/, i can't see a difference tho ^.^.
