Wait this isn't right! h264 before XviD?! Madness!
It turns out it's easier to do the h264 first so for this week, that's how it is. Also remember that the OP/ED lyrics are turned off by default so if you want to see them, flip to the second sub track.
Enjoy!

XviD should be out tomorrow sometime...
Great news, was lurking at the torrent sites for this release. :P Found it at envirosphere (thought you were at animesuki thought). H264 at once , great. Seems the cooperation between your guys are great.
Hope the empty brackets in the OP/ED [Nanoha-DGz]Magical_Girl_Lyrical_Nanoha_StrikerS-01[h264][A200FE73].mkv where solved. Or am I missing a font? I've more mkv files with kana - kanji, but they all works fine with me.
umm, but you guys will still do the Xvid ver right? because i prefer Xvid >.< for personal reason :P
and, i'm still confused with nanoha's weapon name, is it Raising Heart or Raging Heart? :o
@Etherlite: "XviD should be out tomorrow sometime..."
and the official name is "Raising Heart"
Kanji Track Works under win2k now

We will be using all official names for our t/l apart from the following...
> Tiana Lanstar (Nanoha.com has the "official" english name as Teana Lanster. Which would mean that Subaru calls her Tea... rejected.)
> Kyaro Ru Rushie (Nanoha.com has the official name as Caro-ru-Lushe. I actually stood up for this, but realised I wasn't thinking straight and changed my mind. We're using a direct t/l of her katakana name.)
> Zafira (I was personally surprised Nanoha.com says his name should be Zarfila... I laughed at that one.)
> Elio Mondial (Erio, Elio... tell me, is there really a difference?)
> 6th Mobile Division (Because that's what they really do say, and Lost Property Riot Force 6 sounds like it belongs in a joke sub.)
Thanks so much! I've been waiting a few days now for Episode 2, thanks for the quick release! I look forward to your future releases!
Thank you very much, I'm going to check this out now. While the Kyaro bit is slightly puzzling (Caro sounds far more natural), if that's the only thing then I guess it's fine for me.
thanks, the official names are really off ^^;;;
to my ears, it's more to raging tho, nvm
good work, guys, i'll be waiting for the Xvid ver! :D
I don't understand why it should not be "Teana Lanster".
^"Lost Property Riot Force" sounds like something out of Getbackers or something like that, doesn't it? >_<
Btw, Kyaro doesn't sound so bad, seeing the character in action and all that, but Caro/Carol does remain a bit more..."traditional", maybe (the WTF award goes to Carro though...XD).
Good Episode, although the translations were all over the place (must be my VLC player..) will wait for the Xvid as well..
I've got one complaint but I'll let it alone (Since it seems this community strongly supports what I want to complain about, and I don't want to risk a flame war breaking out)
Camario - lol, now you mention it, it does. As for Caro... well, I can't even put my finger on why it seems odd to me, it just does. Maybe it's me mentally associating it with the above Carro. Either way our translator is... very vehemently against Caro, so it's not likely to be changing any time soon. Changing it in the softsubs and remuxing and/or patches like JJS used for Raging Heart might be possible though if enough people want it, but well, that's his role not mine seen as I'm not sure how he does this embed fonts into the subs thing.
Kaliton - It's probably VLC, it's softsub rendering is notoriously bad. In particular it doesn't believe in obeying position commands, so if you choose the karaoke track it'll render the kanji as blocks (no other player does that for me), and squash all 3 lines on top of each other leaving a horrible mess. Same goes for when 2 lines from different people appear at the same time. If you're not opposed to changing player I'd strongly recommend using the CCCP with media player classic, that's never given me any problems at all.
As for the complaint, well, if it's a name issue you probably won't get us to change our minds. Well, unless it's Elio, none of the staff really like him. I'm guessing it is though, because I don't think we've come across as strongly supporting anything else... I'm curious now, lol.
If I ever get extremely bored/bothered, I might change it manually in my own copy (no need to harass JJS about it on my end, as I suppose he's got lots of other work waiting).
But like I've said before, I can live with Kyaro. You guys are doing a fine job and this isn't spoiling it, so far. It's OK for now, as long as further developments in the anime don't change the balance in one direction or another (say, actually making this relevant instead of just subjective nitpicking).
XviD is on its way out now, sorry for the delay but I was out of town all day. Torrent should be posted within an hour or two.

If the subs are messing up, try switching to subtitle track 3 which is the .srt unstyled subs that will make VLC freak out a bit less. You lose some of the special formatting that went into the styled subtitle tracks, but VLC probably isn't rendering it properly anyway.
Hey JJS what font did you tell the subs to look for?
I want to make sure i have the newest version because i got a few random boxes durring one line in the ED
-Gabe
XviD torrent is now up. For the moment I'm the only one seeding so it'll probably be a slow start.
>>18
I pasted the font name right from LuPerry's softsub as "MS ゴシック" which I've been told translates to MS Gothic. Aegisub freaked out that I don't have a font with that name, but it still displayed fine so I don't know what to think about that further.
@Varion.
Arigatou for the reply. I've played Season's 1 and 2 on VLC before and never had it happen; but then again I just recently got this new comp so I'm probably still needing to bash it into shape.
As for the complaint. It has to do with what the Voice Actress said vs what the subtitles say. As someone who used to translate this type of stuff it kind of sticks in my craw when I see a very noticable mistake in translation.
@JJS
I tried them all and all three seem to do the same, I'm going to try Winamp after I make this reply. Who knows? Perhaps it'll solve the issue.
Thanks for the help though ^_^
Note - no edit button? Hmm.. I just realized I used a word in my above post that might be against this boards rules... sorry if it is

No need to beat around the bush. If you don't point it out, rest assured someone else will :) Though, unless it completely changes the plot, we probably won't release a v2 over it.
So far the mistake in this release deserving of the attached image is Small Boss saying "squad" instead of "unit". I won't go into more detail to avoid ZOMG SPOILERS but now that I've mentioned it some hell will probably rain down upon us.
Well you are right about that.
I've looked at both the raw for EP 1 and of course the Subbed EP 1 and I noticed that when Nanoha's Seijuu says "Ra(ging) Heart" the subtitles instead translate that to "Raising Heart"
I can't be certain if this is a mistake because, having looked the MGLN Wiki which isn't very reliable to begin with I noticed "Raising" was used there.
I'm just curious why the English word that the Seijuu used wasn't used in the translation; considering it's exactly what she said.
[Heh, beat me to replying]
This evil card, basically. Each of the A's DVDs came with a number of cards that had English names for the devices. That's where the whole 'Raising Heart' thing came from. JJS took said official name and used it for the first season and A's DVD subs, and as such it's carried over until now because it's 'official'. He probably would've used the other 'official' names if he wasn't working with a team who hate them - but as it is, Raising Heart was used in both the other seasons so they're staying for consistency and no one tried to argue it before episode 1 came out.
I'll forever call it Raging Heart though.
I guess that makes sense.
Maybe I just come from the old line of translators who used to just translate what the actress said. Instead of what some website, book, or card says.
Oh well; to each their own I guess :)
Oh yeah... Another official name we'll be using is Belka. That's right, those knights aren't Velkan, they're Belkan. You can blame the cards for this one too. Oh, and the fact that in the manga's, they're actually written as ベルカ, which t/ls to Belka. Velka would be written like this: ヴェルカ
Katzbalger.. your reply sounds like your trying to be sarcastic... my complaint was merely out of curiousity...
Kaliton, sorry if it does. I was actually adding onto my previous post.
Nice job with your releases. I figured I would just let you know that your softsubs (dialogue and karaoke) work in mplayer SVN and look beautiful.
>>30
Same here, i use latest SVN mplayer on mac os x with ass/ssa enabled and it work flawlessy.
For VLC is better using the provided srt sub, because ass/ssa is really bad supported in this player : it will make horrible overlaps in scenes with multiple subs and it will not render any style/fonts.
From 4chan:
"Dear Nanoha-DGz tanslators,
I'd like to point out that in this particular scene, Hayate quite clearly says "Atem des Eises" (loosely translated "freezing breath", "breath of ice", whatever). This is perfectly fine German, but your version of "Bodeneis" is not. I looked it up in a dictionary and the word actually -much to my surprise- exists, but I've never, ever heard someone use it in real life before. Way to go, guys."
And you know what? He's right. No mentioning of "boden" meaning "surface" in this scene. It's just something minor, but wanted to point this out.
And there were like >30 posts appreciating the disabled by default subtitle track. I thought it was better this way too.
It is not that the subs are disabled... they are still there but on a different sub track. There really should be no reason for people to complain that they are disabled when in fact they are not. Well that is just my input though.
Thanks for this lovely release! It seems that [Nanoha-DGz] is the only group staying on par with the StrikerS series, great job! The best part is when or if the DVDs of StrikerS are released [Nanoha-DGz] will have the advantage as they will already have the scripts and subs ready for it! Only thing is encoding and a bit of editing... of course that is if [Nanoha-DGz] stays with the project!
I look forward to the next episode though... thanks again!
Yea DGz is staying on par, Triad is lagging behind greatly but I think thats because the head man of that group dislikes the series now (some of the things he's said about the characters are grinding at my nerves...)
The only thing I like about Triad's subbing is that they are translating what the seijuu is saying, and not what some website, card, or what have you says. But I like DGz because they seem to be doing a better job, and the admin here doesn't curse up a storm when someone has a complaint.
That's true... so far I have downloaded from the three major groups subbing Nanoha StrikerS.... [Nanoha-DGz], [Triad] and [yesy].
As you said Triad is lagging behind, I also noticed the admin there was not too considerate with his/her language or the input of his/her users. I knew that person disliked Nanoha but to speak ill-will of the series and its characters is unforgivable... I for one love the series very much! Aparently the reason why Triad has been lagging behind is because they want quality... funny thing is they have already made mistakes with their first release of Nanoha StrikerS. One very noticable is in the translation when Subaru says "It hurts... it's hot...", they translated it as "It hurts... it hurts...".
Yesy may have been the very first group to release Nanoha StrikerS in a LQ and MQ version of the first episode but I have yet to see their HQ release not to mention the second episode has not been released by them.
None of that really matters though, we should all be very greatful to Nanoha-DGz for their efforts and hard work, not only are they keeping up with their releases on this new Nanoha series but the quality is very good as well! I have high hopes that they will pull through and complete this series, if so I believe I will be sticking with the Nanoha-DGz group for the duration of this series. Thanks again for the hard work Nanoha-DGz! I look forward to episode three!
To Anonymous:
Really? I don't know German myself... none of us know german really. I'll ask our German dude who we got to t/l the spell for us. He'd be able to fix it up.
Just got back from my German translator. He ROFLed.
As it is, I'll take the opinions of a native to the language, rather than someone with a dictionary. Dictionary's often don't have all the words.
>>32
I'm not gonna let some random Anonymous correct my native German. We use this word for novels and also while speaking of the past, even though the last point is probably called "noble" or "high" German in your Language. Way to go, Anonymous.
It's "Atem des Bodeneises" not "Atem des Bodeneis". You call that nonsense? I lol'd. This version is grammatically correct and also makes sense in that situation. Never read a german fantasy novel, eh?
This scene was extremely hard to make out because of her "gerpanese", though she definitely says "Boden". You can't avoid that fact even when Nanoha Wikipedia should say some other crap.
Don't like my translation? How about turning your "incorrect" translation off at that scene?
Learn some proper German, and we may be able to talk in a different way.
So long
reiserFS
lol at butt pinch!
I'm German myself. And I can guarantee you that she is clearly saying "Atem des Eises". It's simply impossible that shes trying to say "Atem des Bodeneises" because the two additional syllables won't fit in timing-wise. And her pronunciation is crystal-clear. Seems strange to me that you were understanding something else. But guess what? Let's put this matter on hold until Triad releases their version.
And btw your attitude already got yourself the hatred of the german fansub scene. Nice seeing you're trying the same here. I'm just curious where you're trying to run off next to, because there aren't that many places left.
Kaliton - I actually get the impression none of the group like Nanoha anymore. The only one who ever really seemed to was Dragosmore, their translator, and even he seems to be getting sick of it, and as a result they're taking it out on anyone who talks about the show near them, fans or haters alike.
Chan - lol, so do we. I watched season 1 and A's after they'd finished, not used to waiting this long for a Nanoha fix, and the wait's bound to get worse later. Attached image related.
Aand I haven't got a clue on the German seen as all I know is NEIN and random words gathered from Rammstein lyrics. Oh well.
I dont know why people are so anoyed and hatefull of some thing that is done for free by people in there spare time for Us the users to enjoy. If you dont like it you dont have to watch it, No one is makeing you watch it so deal with it and suck it up or wait for Some one else to fan-sub it then download it.
I would like to thank [Nanoha-DGz] again for there fine work and dont like some people ruin it for the rest of Us. Keep up the good work.
BTF16
Just wanted to let you guys know that this particular fan is grateful for all the hardwork and effort not to mention time spent in doing all this. Looking forward for your future releases of the rest of the episodes. And again thank you so much for all your hardwork this fan is very appreciative for your subs of the show.
Anonymous: As it is, reiserFS is our trusty translator. We'd take what he says because we trust him.
We'd hold very little trust in what 4chan says becuase... well... it's 4chan. Nor do we (or I at least) really care what 4chan says.
