there's news going around that there's cracking down on anime down loaders in singapore starting this year >.> plenty of stuff going around but nothing confirmed yet. i live in s'pore too so it affects me too. >.< anyone with more info on this problem?
this is seriously a big problem for us. they hv no rights to do that. if we r dling LISCENED anime, i have nothing to say. but UNLISCENED anime???? wth???
plz ppl, enlighten the both of us, n others singaporens. =.=
anime blogs are quiet abt this matter too. one blogger who posted on this was warned not to talk abt it. the anime future of singaporeans look bleak. =/
agree with u. but i think they hv no rights to do this.
holy shit. i have just seen a example of the crack downs. 10k per anime episode. this is GG for singaporean anime fans. =.=
whr u get the news???? wad does GG stand for????
news is rare all around..i got a link but no idea if i could put it here. btw, GG stands for Good Game. dota terms. =D

google anti-video piracy association and go to their website to see the list of authorized titles.
authorized means???? it can be dled or it cant???? sry, english is poor. =(
cant. look at all the titles there. code geass, inuyasha and some recent titles including our dear nanoha strikers =/
THAT'S Y!!!!!!!! they need not even release it for us to buy n they include that in their list?????? take inuyasha for example, i took us few years in order to get it. n nanoha of the 1st 2 season. which were complete in 2005 if i m not wrong, we only get it this year. 2 years of waiting before it is release???? =.=
not to mention the quality of the products =.= fansub teams beat them hands and legs down. =D
totally agree wtih u. n also, we r dling StrikerS from the OFFICAL DGz webside n it is illegal =.= n i dun think StrikerS is liscened by come company which ban us from dling.
more info. search for odex on wikipedia. apparently they can take action against you even if the anime u're dling isn't under them but are represented by odex frm the jap companies. look out for the adobe format letter. read and rant people -_-
omg.. that is ...............
looked at 'Anime licensed by Odex & Not Listed on website includes', StrikerS is not include in it.
about the letter, i cant read it, seems that my com does not hv the programm to read the files, mind if u post it here???
oh. my bad. strikers is included on the avpa authorized titles, not odex. i cant get the to post the letter here.could u try dling adobe reader then?
cant. my bro dun allow me to dl things other then anime =.=
if StrikerS is not under by odex, it really make no sence at all y we cant dl StrikerS. =.= well, StrikerS is under which company n is odex under that company???
and also, since they r tracking on torrent, wad about DDL??
doesn't matter it's torrent or ddl. as long as ur isp gives them the IPs, u're so screwed =/
darn. y cant they juz give us a small bit of freedom to dl things. 1st was music, now they r targeting anime.
n also, do u think, odex had so much fund to liscene so many anime???? o.O
no they don't. but they are taking action nonetheless. which sucks.seriously.
yea, that's lame. they got nth better to do.. =.=
If a Singaporean company has licensed Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS, then it's illegal to download it unless you can either download it by buying it over the Internet or you buy the DVDs.
There's a few faults to downloading Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha that you should know:
- If they only licensed Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha, but not A's and StrikerS, then you can download A's and StrikerS, but not the first season.
- If they licensed ALL of the series, then it is illegal to download them.
- If you download the series BEFORE licensing, but they license it afterwards, then it's your choice.
If you have downloaded good enough anime torrents, then you should know by now the group [a.f.k.]. They always put 'Please delete after licensing'. That goes both for the tracker and the anime.
Good luck!

Technically true, but not completely. If a singaporean company has licenesed it, then all countries within Singapore's region code can't legally download it. Licenses only work in regions.
Yes, that does mean that if America licenses something, lo and behold, the rest of the world can still download it (even though they still try to stop that the power hungry bastards).
But then again, you're all forgetting the key point. What we are doing is still illegal as we're still breaching copyright by defacing the original work (adding subs to it without permission). The thing is though, the anime industry turns a blind eye to it as while we're taking profits away from them, we're potentially brining in more (big American licensing companies that is)
>>26 True.
From the japan side of the anime indestry, they turn a blind eye because it helps with sales of the anime ones it is licenesed in whatever region outisde of japan. What they hate and try to stop is people selling subs like Hongcon rips or people who steal fansubers hard work and sell it online with Ebay or what ever. that hruts there $$$ in the end. The Fansubing comunity has allways been a "hot" topic when it comes to licenesed/copyrighted related maters.
On a related note: Thank you [Nanoha-DGz] team and take as long as you need to release your work the way you want to.
>>26
Ah, thank you for clearing that up, Katzbalger!
I didn't know about the region codes, because I only worked with doujin translations, not anime ;)
>>27
Ah, those eBay sellers. It's even worse than people downloading illegal torrents.
And as far as I know, only American people seems to use eBay. Never seen a Korean or a Japanese using eBay in my area =D
Anyways, I agree with that note, btf16. We all love your fansubbing skills, [Nanoha-DGz]!
If you guys want a Korean translation (changed my email address ;_;), then you can always ask me. I'd love to participate in your fansubs.
i m not sure if singapore hv liscened StrikerS but i hv oly heard the news last night. when i check out their authorized titles, StrikerS is already in the list, so i m not sure if it was liscened before or after i started DLing it.
And also, i m not a heavy anime DLers. i only DL less 3 anime a week. of mayb even none. the only titles i DL r bleach n StrikerS from the 2 fansub group. n mayb StrikerS RAW. so the most i would gone up to 4 DL per week or even less. heavy DLers hv their torrent full of anime show, at least 5 anime esp per day. It is really sad to see this. n the worse case is that, singapore company had liscened alot of anime, but they did not even release it.
we can only get our anime needs online but, light DLers like me, after seeing this news, it is really saddening to see. =(
>>29
I wouldn't really suggest you download it, then.
The problem with licensing is that some trackers don't put them off, and when it gets caught, then it's due for some penalty.
If you're going to download it (and I really don't recommend it), then use a direct-download.
If you just wanna download anime, then go to either Korea or U.S.
Korea
- Pros
* anime has developed
* ultra-high-internet-speed for ultra-low cost (last time I checked, it was... either 10mb/s or 100mb/s for only $20~30 a month)
* few licensed (the original Nanoha has been licensed, though)- Cons
* bad weather
* you gotta learn another language
* korea is the top-ranking swear country on EarthU.S
- Pros
* people don't really care about license
* large country - police won't really get you for getting illegal downloads
* speaks english- Cons
* worst gas prices
* corrupt government
* hard to get a visa/permanent resident status
* obviously, ultra-slow-speed for ultra-high-price (paying 318kb/s for $55 o_O;;)So... choose!~ xD
Ah, I believe this'll make everything clear to you, though:
http://www.avpas.com.sg/news/15102006_thesundaytimes.pdf
direct download??? wads the different between torrent n DDl??? as i noe they can track torrent via IP add. but DDL???
>>32
Eh, direct-download is like... downloading directly from the server.
But torrent - it uses P2P sharing system.
P2P downloads require at least 1 tracker, 1 seed, and... well, you're the peer, and 0 leechers (no, I was just joking about that, but we don't want any leechers, do we?)
The entire system can be thought of as this:
- Tracker keeps track of everyone that seeds and downloads
- Seeders are the people who share (uploads) files to other people
- Peers are the people who gets the files (downloads) and shares the file simultaneously (uploads).
- Leechers are the people who gets the files (downloads), but doesn't repay the tracker by not seeding (uploading).
It's like an electric stove: the stove (tracker) is heated up by the electricity (seeders), and the frying pan is heated, making the pan and the stove hot (peers), and the rice that gets sprinkled with oil that does nothing but feed us (leechers and those who sell them by eBay).
Got it?
Hopefully that helped ;D
>>33
thx, it helped.
but 1 question. does DDL make it harder for them to track??? as in more safe to DL???? or is it totally impossible for them to track DDLers.
DDL is also, alot faster then torrents.
None, as much as I can tell. If a report is made against you and investigation begins, I sincerely doubt direct download will be much of a safeguard.
You can try encrypting your data, but it might not be much of a help.
However, don't panic. As long as no one reported you, you should remain safe.
I just realized how dour I sounded in contrast to starlightSkyS. Anyway, from what I can tell, direct download is just as how it sounds, direct. It gets the bits of data straight across and recompose it into the file. Torrents basically work in a similar principle, when it comes to data recomposition and all that. There's difference, but I doubt it is really important to elaborate on it.
So, basically, the issue with torrents actually lie with the fact that the pieces of data sent over are usually tagged as being meant for BitTorrent. And as such, it can be detected and isolated. Some universities and colleges utilize this technique to ban BitTorrent usage in their premises. But consequently, the BitTorrent data packages can be encrypted to prevent such methods of detection.
In my opinion then, I don't really see the difference between torrent and direct download. Aside from direct download being faster, as you have mentioned, and therefore lowering the window of time that you can be detected considerably.
But I might be wrong, really. I am, afterall, technologically impaired to a certain degree.
well hav no fear im from singapore and ive been dlin hell lots of anime and nth happens 2 me if they wanna catch thousands would b caught alrdy..the one thing i dont like about licensed anime is they take hell of a long time 2 release the show and when they do they charge a ridiculous amount of cash for it fan sub are better..btw i didnt noe strikers was licensed
mayb u r the lucky ones. thr already lots of ppl getting fine.
if u noe of 1 blogger in Sg name darkmirage, go read his blog n u will noe wad i mean.
hm yeah darkmirage got something abt this on his blog. >>38 and apparently he's either very lucky or he's just awaiting his turn.
Hi, I'll like to check is there any xdcc bot in DGz's irc channel??
>>37
Well, Materia Magica (>>36)is quite correct on that.
The problem, as stated, is how you'll be caught downloading them.
If on my status, I'd be rather buying the DVDs instead of using DDL or BT... but if you seriously want to take the chance, use BT.
I believe that DDL and BT both record IPs, and DDLs will be super rare to find. Although BT may be slower, it can still hold up the pace with DDL when there's a lot of seeds.
And anyways, by using BT, there's going to be lots of people downloading, which makes it hard for people to track the IPs (If Katzbalger is correct with the area code, then it should be really easy to distinguish the IPs, though).
And also, most fansubs group use BTs...
>>31
See what's inside the PDF. It's a news to see.
>>41
And uhh... excuse me?
>>38
http://www.darkmirage.com/stuff/letter.pdf
Oh yea, you'll be seeing one of those soon enough.
And for all of you in Singapore - you might as well pack your stuff and leave the country before you guys are caught downloading DDLs or BTs...
sigh.. well, singapore anime fan will soon hv an up roar. n also, that's the end for SG anime fans. NO MORE FANSUB FOR SG!!!!!!
n now, Singaporeans anime fans will hate the only anime company in SG. no1 buy their product, boom!!

''n the currently anime that 1 like the most, nanoha StrikerS, i cant get them now. SG at least will hv to wait for 2 yrs, 2 WHOLE YRS!!!!! n i dun hv the $ to import them.''
mistake, change the 1 to i
> mistake, change the 1 to i
Well, that's what makes Internet so interesting. We use 1N734N37 language... although we really wouldn't want to figure out what you're saying... just using some of 'em is good enough for us ;D
>>44
Ignore this guy (DarkMirage) please. He just another lame blogger who fan the fires. Drama queen.
>>48
The good thing about him is that you can rip his files off.
Lmao, you should have read the PDF...
Oh, how about going to a Internet Cafe?
You could download using DDL, and bring in a ultra-small external hard drive... There's 1TB EHD I think that they're selling for $300... And anyways, as long as you only download and don't leave any traces (by meaning of logging on and off at the internet, unless you can use 2 computers at once), they probably won't be able to catch you.
That being said you should also think about going to different internet bars rather then the same one everyday.
Well singapore's anime scene is a gone case and the singapore company who started it will be getting what is coming for them, BANKRUPTCY. I, for one, am not going to buy their products even if i die from anime withdrawal symdromes.

If you are well inform of the situation in in Singapore, you will noe wat i mean. :P
I'm from Singapore and have never heard of this Odex company. Are they the ones that release those VCD boxes I see?
I wonder how much money they'll make if they insist on restricting possible customers from previewing what they've licensed. Personally, I don't buy what I haven't seen (and loved) yet. I suppose Animax is one way to preview, if you've subscribed to that cable channel. What do they air nowadays? Anything vaguely recent? Last I heard, Kyou Kara Maou! was showing there.
Either way, their efforts to contain anime fans from checking out fansubs is rather stinky. Sort of reminds me of back in the day when an ADV employee (hi Andy!) went snooping around IRC fserves to see who to warn for serving things they licensed, or thought they licensed. (lulz Noir/Soldats pwnt) I think it took them some half a decade to cease being shitlisted by anime fans (like myself) with a long memory. Odex is not endearing itself to me now as well. Still, it's rather a moot point since I detest R3 DVDs and hate VCDs even more...
As of right now, I get most of my fansubs-to-preview through post and overseas FTPs; torrents are occasionally used still for mkvs not hosted on xdcc bots. Then spend $$ each month buying up R1s of old crap I've always been wanting. This is stuff I've spent more than a decade waiting for to get (Battle Athletes <3) so if you really, really want to play safe, you can just wait till you do get that CC and the job needed to fuel your hobby. Anime does and can wait that long for you. :)
Singaporeans, if you're terribly terribly worried about being tagged, I suggest you start making friends overseas. Friends overseas with anime dumps, and/or a happy-to-post attitude. We do get merchandise that overseas fans would love to trade for (read: ChuangYi's awesomely priced english-translated manga that uses good quality paper and comes with a nice dust-jacket) so maybe try using that as a bargaining chip.
p.s. Lots of <3 to DGz for fansubbing StrikerS, you are very much appreciated.
Ah hehe, yes, I only noticed the date of the last post after hitting reply. sheepish Sorry about that. It's just that I only just noticed the hoo-haa over Odex and what-have-you a few days ago.
Hnn, while it's not much defense to remain interested in only the non-licensed anime torrents (since, as you say, they're internet stalkers too) then I must thank God that I've graduated from binbou student status. On the bright side, I don't doubt that there will be clever individuals who'll come out with the next generation of data dissemination protocols that will take the PTBs yet another few years to clamp down on.
I know I'll still preview new shows the way I always have, if they want to spy on obscure anime torrents for our IPs there's not much that can be helped. This is likely to be a wait-and-see game for us fans now. But I know I won't need to read any tea leaves to predict Odex's failure in gaining anything but a name to be spat on by fans for the foreseeable future.
Which leads me to wondering. Since they're completely uninterested in opening a dialogue with potential customers, or doing any PR damage control, then I have to say they aren't in this business to gain business. Their agenda is Control, Control, Control, and I'm betting their paychecks are coming from a source utterly independent of the market they're currently beating at with a nerf bat.
They had to have waved a good amount of money to get the Japanese studios to give them carte blanche over those hefty titles. As in, even if giving out the licenses to Odex would bring them no revenue, the money Odex waved at them would cover any losses. Gee, I wonder who has a vested interest and a fat wallet...
Overly suspicious of me, perhaps. But I've lived here too long to ignore the vibes I'm getting from this 'campaign'. So, if I get slapped with a letter, know that I will pay $3500 to watch your StrikerS subs! Yes! Fans unite! Powerfist of determination and friendship!
why me i from Singapore love StrikerS like mad but can not see so sad
