I think they didn't appear cause there was no reason for them to appear; they weren't that major of a character in A's.
While Arf, Chrono, Yuuno and a few others had been the story was primarily about Section Six and it's members.

I doubt it. I think once created, familiars are autonomous (although loyal to their masters).
But it'd be great if, in a 4th series, they returned to active duty (after Gil Graham's death). Lotte & Aria kicking arse along with Section 6 (mayhaps alongside the Wolkenritter?)? Not 'Arf! (pun intended!). Meanwhile, more of the Lieze Twins:

Maybe because he wanted to stay in dog form. a familiar will take whatever form is most convenient to him/her and/or his/her master

Maybe the TSAB have found a workaround for this - given familiars their own Linker Cores? That'd work for their reappearence in a potential 4th series, eh? Meanwhile, Lotte & Aria.

What do you think?! Maybe him prematurely aging has something to do with it? Graham was only 39 when he died; Lotte & Aria ARE two sexy nekos, after all!!
