So after trying this game, all I can say is "Christ, could they make it any fucking harder?" I honestly don't know how they expect you to win at this game. The controls are fine I suppose, but the opponents are set at too high a level and there's no option to lower the difficulty (that I see).

The teleporting thing never seems to work, but the CPUs do it all the time, making it near impossible to hit them. When you do manage to get a melee volly on them, they're completely unfazed and will hit you with an attack that will knock you away.

Which brings me to the worst of it. When you do get knocked back, you just float there motionless for a good minute or so. No button makes you recover faster. This gives your opponent ample opportunity to blast the crap out of you. Case in point, when fighting Sakura, she always uses her Fight card combo on you, which takes out an entire bar. Afterwards you're stunned and just float there. Then Sakura will summon Firey and hit you with ease, and that wipes out another bar.

And this is just the 2nd battle of story mode (and the first is just 3 gadget drones).

So there's something I'm not getting, or the game is simply just too hard.

you're probably just not used to it yet. personally i had a problem in the first stage as well when i first played through with Fate. however, it is beatable and doable so don't give up yet. pressing the buttons to get up faster does actually do something versus not pressing anything at all in which case you won't get up at all. what i did was mash the dash button most of the time while i was getting beat up which usually sent me dashing towards them after getting knocked back.

teleporting is possible as well. never used it myself seeing as how it's useless for me (as cool as hearing Sonic Move is). you have to get within certain range of the oppenent to use it. from what i experienced, it will only work when the red lock on target is on the oppenent. anything further than that won't work.

i already beat it twice with Nanoha and Fate so it isn't impossible. the learning curve is pretty high so if you're determined something will happen. heck i wasn't even able to use Jet Zamber at all using the keyboard config but still beat it without it.

If you haven't installed the 1.01 patch, DON'T play Nanoha or Fate's story mode until you've gotten used to the game with another character, because they go up against Sakura right away and she's the newbie-destroyer. Sakura's an absolute terror if you're not used to melee and dodging, and doesn't give you much of a chance to figure it out. Nanoha's especially hard, because you practically have to know the melee system better to use a long-range character than you do to use a short-range character, in order to keep others out of melee range.

The problems you're having with the CPU being completely unfazed by your melee combo and then knocking you back is for the same reason - when you approach Sakura, she starts charging up a heavy melee blow before you start hitting her, she gets limited super-armor while charging so she's harder to stun, and then hits you with a fully-charged blow that gives heavy knockback - it's a fairly standard strategy that you really ought to learn if you plan to use Nanoha because it's a good way to get a melee-user out of your face. As for getting past it, if you notice the enemy charging a melee attack, just partially charge your own attack (you'll have to learn the timing through experience) which will give it enough oomph to stun and knockback the enemy before they finish charging their attack to full for the damage.

Alternatively, just teleport behind them, teleporting's another thing you've got to get used to for melee; you've already witnessed how useful it is for total melee dominance against a low-level opponent, but it's also the best way to dodge rushing attacks like Sakura's Fight card.

Any idea of which anime series, manga or game the characters come from? Of course I know Nanoha and Fate are from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, and Sakura is from Card Captor Sakura. What about the other girls in the game?

..... Ok, seriously. What were these programmers thinking?! Stage 5 in story mode. They pit you against FIVE copies of yourself. FIVE. What the hell! One CPU was hard enough, but FIVE?! I'm always getting hit by an attack from some one, so I can't even so much as move let alone attack myself. Were they trying to make this game as hard as possible?

Arg, and I thought that was bad enough, stage 6 pits you againt SIX gadget drones. After you take out 2 of them, then the girl with the drill comes. Also, the gadgets re-spawn. So now you have the drill girl rushing you while five drones are constantly shooting you from behind.

Sorry for all my whining, but really. A game too hard to enjoy is NOT a good game. Just a warning to those without l33t skillz.

If you play as Nanoha, here's a useful strategy against many opponents. Get far away from them, at the beginning, you might lose a couple of bars but that's fine, then hit them from long range to charge up your magic thing. It should charge fairly quickly as they're individually weak. Make sure to stay out of range of all but one of them. Then once your fully charged, use a starlight breaker from long distance. It should wipe most of them out, and deal enough damage that you can go into excellion mode again and fire another starlight breaker again almost immediately.

Well, I managed to beat the drill chick finally. Luckily the next (and final) stage teamed me up with a partner, so I managed to beat all the gadgets and that caster chick on my first attempt.

I was using Sarara btw (pictured). Funnel spam FTW. Of course after going through that agrivating experience with her, I've grown rather attached to her.

Now that I've beaten story mode once, I doubt I'll be trying it again... way too hard. I'll just stick with free battle mode.

It's typically pretty easy (though harder with some characters than others). The trick is to keep your distance, take out a couple with ranged attacks, and then just fire your super move for massive damage and pick off anyone who's left.

This is pretty much exactly the same except you have to keep track of your kills - right before the drill girl comes out, use the super move, it should take out most or all of the active drones, severely hurt at least a couple of the drones just as they spawn, and usually put a dent in the drill girl's HP. Once the drill girl appears you don't really have any attention to spare for the drones, just fight back as much as you can, try to do a couple bars worth of damage, and wait for her to knock your HP down to critical so you can use your desperation super and hopefully finish her off there and then.

The gadget drone spawns AREN'T infinite - there's five or six gadget drones, then the drill girl, then three or four more gadget drones. Same deal with the caster chick except with 20 enemies total instead of 10.

I seem to be missing two characters in this game, Ruru and Nowel. I downloaded the full game ISO, installed it and applied the ver 1.03+ patch. I was wondering if I did something wrong, or if I am missing anything from patches ver 1.01+ and 1.02+? If I am does anyone have a link to where I can download those two patches? Any help is welcome, thanks much!

You unlock those two by beating Story Mode - beat it once to unlock Ruru and twice to unlock Nowel. As far as I know, it doesn't matter what character you use, but if beating it twice doesn't unlock Nowel, then try beating it with Ruru (I beat it the second time with Ruru, so I don't know whether I got Nowel for beating it the second time or for beating it with Ruru).

Wait, then how come I didn't unlock anyone after I beat story mode?

... Don't tell me I have to beat it without using any continues. Cuz if so, that's simply not possible for me. Oh well. I don't think I'm missing out on much anyways.

Yeah I was just reading in a forum about it. I am glad to know I didn't mess up and installed the game as well as applied the patch for the game perfectly! Seems you can beat Story Mode with any character the first time around which unlocks Ruru, but you must use Ruru and beat Story Mode the second time around which will unlock Nowel. Ah on a side note... if you beat Story Mode a third time with Nowel you can unlock a gadget character "I think, well I read it in the same forum so... probably!". Don't get your hopes up... I hear it does not have many skills.

YAY! Finally beat Story Mode once "Used Nanoha!"! It is insane, especially fghting 5 copies of yourself not to mention the girl in red whom has the drills "Ruru"! I had to use a lot of continues for that and I still got Ruru unlocked.

By the way, anyone willing to upload their "GameConfig.dat" file? Supposedly that is where your game config and game progress is stored. So if anyone has beaten the game in Story Mode 3 times "Mentioned above." and unlocked all the characters "Even Ruru and Nowel is fine... the gadget is useless!", an upload of that would be sweet! Hopefully there is someone kind enough to do so. Thanks fr the help!

OMG Ruru sucks her AoE skill does crap when fighting in the sixth stage! Beating Story Mode with her is next to near impossible!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have high respect for anyone who manages to do it! Like I requested above anyone who is kind enough and has unlocked Ruru and Nowel, could you upload your "GameConfig.dat" file please?

EDIT - Correction, with the use of a PSOne Controller I managed to beat the game and unlock everything! If anyone wants all the characters unlocked I would be happy to upload my config file.

Yeah, that's true, beating it with Nowel does unlock the Gadget Drone. I didn't mention it earlier because I forgot, it's not really that interesting or fun to play as. It's got no story mode, no supers, and only two skills.
